Specialty Volunteers

Luminaries & Novas

The Luminaries began in 1990, with a small group of women from the Palos Verdes Peninsula wanting to support Torrance Memorial Medical Center with their time and fundraising efforts, as well as dedicated to fostering the volunteer spirit in youth through NOVAs. Children of active Luminaries can join NOVAs, a high school volunteer program. Joining NOVAs allows students to gain valuable experience through volunteering as patient escorts in the hospital, as well as helping outside the hospital at special events, making tray favors and blankets for patients, decorating the pediatrics ward and other activities.

Membership is open to Palos Verdes and Torrance residents. A new member meeting is usually held in March.

Las Amigas

Las Amigas was formed by a group of women dedicated to the promotion of quality, cost-effective health care. Today, these outstanding women continue to be a premier support group of the Torrance Memorial Foundation.

Las Amigas raises funds primarily through the annual Holiday Festival, Torrance Memorial's largest fundraising event. When you volunteer at Holiday Festival, you bring the joy of the holiday season to thousands of visitors, and you join a group of dedicated people who work hard and have fun. Las Amigas meets throughout the year for fun activities, excursions and more!
