From Diagnosis to Survivorship: Addressing Recurrence Risk And Quality of Life

Presented by Living Beyond Breast Cancer, this two-part webinar series will focus on understanding what happens after active treatment, what therapies are available to reduce risk of recurrence, and how to manage side-effects.
- The first part of the webinar series, Decrease Your Risk of Recurrence, will focus on the ongoing therapies available to reduce the risk for recurrence with particular attention paid to people with high-risk early breast cancer. Session experts will explore: anti-estrogen therapies and CDK4/6 inhibitors, anti-HER2 targeting therapies, TNBC therapies such as PARP inhibitors, and tests that help predict whether such treatments are possible or under study to monitor possible recurrence. This virtual program is free of cost and will be held on October 26, 2023.
- The second part of the webinar series, Managing Side Effects, will focus on menopausal side effects caused by a variety of breast cancer treatments. Session experts will explore: menopausal side effects caused by anti-estrogen therapies such as tamoxifen, AIs, and ovarian suppression, and sexual side effects. This virtual program is free of cost and will be held on November 2, 2023.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month
In recognition of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Torrance Memorial offers ongoing promotion of breast cancer awareness, screening and early detection. To learn more about your risk for breast cancer, lifestyle strategies that may reduce risk and recommended screening, contact the Cancer Resource Center at 310-517-7077. Through the Torrance Memorial Speakers Bureau, nurses with advanced training in breast health are available to provide lectures to community groups on breast cancer prevention, treatment and survivorship. To learn about activities scheduled in October to recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month, contact the Breast Health Nurses at the Breast Diagnostic Center at 310-784-6335.
Breast Self-Examination Training
If you are a woman, you owe yourself a visit to the Torrance Memorial Breast Diagnostic Center for free breast self-examination training by a registered nurse who is a Certified Breast Self-Exam Trainer and specializes in all aspects of breast health. Classes are offered throughout the year. Free of charge but reservations required.
