Vimal K. Murthy, MD

A lifetime native of the South Bay, Dr. Murthy was born and raised in Manhattan Beach, California. He attended Mira Costa High School and UCLA where he earned a BS in Biochemistry and MPH in Epidemiology, not to mention being a true Bruin. He attended Medical School at George Washington University in Washington DC and completed his surgical residency at Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis. Ultimately he completed a Burn Fellowship at the University of California San Diego. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and is a Certified Wound Specialist (CWS) with the Association for Advancement of Wound Care. Dr. Murthy has been on staff at Torrance Memorial Medical Center since 2003. Dr. Murthy’s interests include acute burn care and restoring the lives of burn survivors, physically and emotionally. Dr. Murthy has a special place in his heart for our pediatric burn survivors and has an excellent rapport with them.

Dr. Murthy is a member of the American Burn Association and was instrumental in successfully leading our Burn Center to our current verified status by the American Burn Association in Chicago. He attends national meetings in the burn community and is eager to adopt any innovations whenever possible. In October of 2013, Dr. Murthy together with Torrance Memorial Medical Center, hosted the Western Burn Conference in Los Angeles. Dr. Murthy has recently been certified in Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy. Dr. Murthy has been a guest speaker on many occasions at Torrance Memorial Medical Center, in the community and at the annual burn conferences.

Dr. Murthy’s interests include volleyball, basketball, scuba diving and a cappella singing. His test scores qualified him to become a member of Mensa. He has a passion for trivia as was witnessed when he auditioned and became a contestant on Jeopardy.
