A native of Southern California, Dr. Mahmood attended UC Irvine for his undergraduate studies as well as medical school. He completed his residency at the University of Maryland, followed by fellowship training in specialized radiation techniques (including brachytherapy and stereotactic radiation therapy) at the MD Anderson Cancer Center, where he then served as an Assistant Professor for 5 years.

Dr. Mahmood has published and co-published more than 100 abstracts, manuscripts, and book chapters on a wide range of cancer topics during his career, leading to many awards and speaking invitations. Moreover, he serves on many national committees related to his specialty, including as an editor of a medical journal and as a specialty board examiner.

In his free time, Dr. Mahmood enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, playing and watching basketball, and sampling different cuisines.
