Dr. Camel earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Illinois School of Medicine with James Scholar Honors in 1988. Dr. Camel then completed residencies in general surgery at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, the University of Southern California and Los Angeles County Medical Center in Los Angeles. He then completed a fellowship in pediatric surgery at the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles.

Dr. Camel is currently active at multiple hospitals and committees. Dr. Camel has published numerous scientific papers in well-known medical journals and has presented his research findings at national medical conferences. Dr. Camel is involved in minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery and robotic surgery and performed the first robotic single site gallbladder surgery at Torrance Memorial Medical Center and the first transanal laparoscopic rectal surgery. Dr. Camel has special interests in hernia repair, cancer, breast, colon, and rectal surgery. He is board certified in General Surgery by the American Board of Surgery, is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and is a member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons.
