Dr. Matsunaga graduated with honors from Brown University and received his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, where he was elected into Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society.
Dr. Matsunaga completed his urologic surgical residency at the University of California, Irvine. He worked closely with internationally renowned urologists Dr. Ralph Clayman and Dr. Thomas Ahlering receiving specialized training in cutting-edge, minimally invasive laparoscopic, robotic, and endourologic techniques. He earned several awards including the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons Outstanding Laparoendoscopic Resident Surgeon Award and Long Beach Veteran's Outstanding Customer Service and Outstanding Resident Awards. He has authored several book chapters on laparoscopy and robotic surgery as well as published in several peer-reviewed medical journals.
Dr. Matsunaga is Chief of Urology at Torrance Memorial Medical Center and also a member of the Medical Executive Committee.
Dr. Matsunaga was born on Kauai and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. He is an alumnus of Iolani School, class of 1991. Before the birth of his three children he enjoyed golfing. His other interests include water sports and traveling.
