Dr. Shum graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, Berkeley in Legal Studies. She earned her degree in podiatric medicine from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA and completed residency training in podiatric surgery at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA. She then completed a fellowship at the combined Amputation Prevention Center at Sherman Oaks Hospital and Western University of Health Sciences program specializing in limb preservation and wound care.
Dr. Shum is the Medical Director of the Amputation Prevention Center at Torrance Memorial Medical Center. Her interests include the treatment of venous leg ulcers, arterial ulcers, diabetic foot infections, diabetic foot ulcers, reconstructive foot and ankle surgery and hyperbaric medicine. Dr. Shum has written numerous publications on wound care and the diabetic foot. She has also presented posters at national meetings related to limb salvage and diabetic Charcot reconstructive foot surgery.
