Celebrating a Century of Care

In 2025, Torrance Memorial Medical Center reaches a historic milestone with its 100th anniversary.

In that time, Torrance Memorial has grown from a local nonprofit hospital to a regional leader recognized as one of the top 3% of hospitals in the state. The first hospital in the South Bay has become the first choice in the region for expert care with state-of-the art facilities, expert multidisciplinary services and groundbreaking research.

Our progress is inspired by all of the pioneers, physicians, nurses, employees and volunteers who give back to help us go forward.

Visionaries like our founders Jared and Helena Torrance who dreamed of a nonprofit community hospital built on excellence and inclusivity.

Trailblazing physicians like Dr. Patricia Sacks, the only woman in her medical class, who went on to help establish the Polak Diagnostic Center which screens over 35,000 women annually for breast cancer.

Innovators like Dr. Mark Lurie who spent four decades helping to establish the Lundquist Lurie Cardiovascular Institute at the forefront of cardiac care and research in Southern California.

Patrons like the Lundquist and Hunt families who’ve helped us to expand and advance into an integrated system of expert care with dedicated centers of excellence.

Who’ll be next to contribute to our culture of care and innovation?

Researchers like Dr. Swati Sikaria who are leading clinical trials for promising new treatments. Or Dr. Paula Eboli who is working with the next generation of smart imaging technology for more surgical precision and less recovery time. Our new president and CEO, Keith Hobbs, will lead us forward with a future accreditation as an academic hospital, advancements in state-of-the-art AI diagnostics and the continued expansion of our affiliation with Cedars-Sinai.

We are proud to be first in the South Bay to serve and lead medical advancements and cutting-edge healthcare for our community over the next 100 years.

We’re just getting started.
