Torrance Memorial Names Oncology Medical Leaders
David Chan, M.D., and Hugo Hool, M.D., Appointed to Lead Torrance Memorial's Comprehensive Cancer Center
Torrance, CA - Torrance Memorial Medical Center is pleased to announce that David Chan, M.D., has been named medical director of the Torrance Memorial Cancer Center. In addition, Hugo Hool, M.D., has been appointed medical director of the Torrance Memorial Oncology Unit and chair of the Oncology Committee.
These complementary roles seamlessly integrate the programs and services of the Torrance Memorial Cancer Center to provide a comprehensive array of cancer services to oncology patients and the community.

In addition to the expertise of oncologists Chan and Hool, the Torrance Memorial Cancer Center includes a dedicated team of healthcare professionals comprised of an oncology clinical nurse specialist, chaplain, nutritionist and social worker, among others.
Chan earned his doctor of medicine degree from UCLA and trained in oncology at Stanford University. While practicing in the South Bay Area, he has been a long standing member of the clinical faculty for the UCLA Division of Hematology/Oncology and was instrumental in the development of the community cancer research program affiliated with the UCLA Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center called the Translational Oncology Research International/UCLA. Chan is an instructor at the Revlon/UCLA Breast Center and has authored Breast Cancer: Real Questions/Real Answers, a comprehensive book for newly diagnosed breast cancer patients and their loved ones.
Hool trained in medicine at Rutgers/Robert Woods Johnson and oncology at UCLA/Cedars Sinai. He was instrumental in developing and organizing the new oncology unit at Torrance Memorial which opened in February 2008. Dr. Hool has implemented a rigorous safety program and meets weekly with the staff to educate and help coordinate patient care. As Chairman of the Oncology Committee, Hool has advocated a more comprehensive team approach to cancer care. New breast cancer cases are reviewed at a weekly conference attended by breast surgeons, radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, mammographers and pathologists. Complex oncology patients are reviewed at a weekly Tumor Board.
