Torrance Memorial Announces Scholarship Program

Torrance, CA - Torrance Memorial Medical Center is pleased to announce the continuation of a scholarship program for high school seniors seeking healthcare careers in nursing, pharmacy and allied health professions.

Graduating high school seniors are eligible to apply for one of 10, $1,000 scholarships. The application deadline is April 15. Scholarship winners will be announced in June. "Torrance Memorial is encouraging students to enter the dynamic field of healthcare so that they can make a difference in the lives of others," said Virginia Mulligan, R.N., Torrance Memorial nurse recruiter. "We want a new generation to continue the Torrance Memorial tradition of providing excellent patient care in the South Bay."

Eligibility requirements include plans to enroll in a program of study in a designated healthcare career including clinical laboratory scientist, echo technician, nuclear medicine technologist, pharmacist, physical therapist, physical therapist assistant, radiation therapy technologist, radiologic technologist, registered nurse, respiratory therapist, speech pathologist, and ultrasonographer. Applicants must also be residents of the South Bay and graduating high school in 2008.

The scholarship fund is made possible through the medical center's volunteer support group, Las Amigas, the Torrance Memorial Health Care Foundation and community support.
