Surgical Services

Torrance Memorial Medical Center operates one of the busiest surgical programs in the South Bay, with over 18,000 procedures performed annually on an inpatient and outpatient basis. The hospital offers the technology and highly trained staff to perform a full range of surgical services, as well as specialized procedures in:

  • Heart care
  • Orthopedics
  • Burn care
  • Ear/nose/throat
  • Bariatric surgery
  • Gynecology
  • Urology
  • General surgery
  • Robotics
  • Ophthalmology
  • Laser surgery
  • Plastic Surgery
  • Vascular/Endovascular

Separate waiting areas accommodate the families of inpatient and outpatients. Torrance Memorial offers the da Vinci Surgical System for prostate procedures, gynecologic and in the future, other procedures. The system provides patients with new, minimally invasive surgical procedures that offer significant advantages over traditional "open" surgeries. These robotic-assisted minimally invasive procedures can benefit patients with less pain, discomfort, blood loss and a quicker return to normal activities. All recovery room nurses are trained in both adult and pediatric advanced cardiac life support. In addition, the entire operating room staff benefits from ongoing education from a dedicated OR educator, including training programs for both the operating room and the post anesthesia care unit.

Patients who will be having surgery at Torrance Memorial are encouraged to complete all pre-operative testing prior to the day of surgery. Pre-admission before the day of their procedure is also recommended, and can be completed via phone the evening prior to surgery.

The express pre-operative area is located on the first floor of the hospital. Patients should leave valuables such as jewelry at home. Follow-up phone calls to outpatients can be conducted upon patient or family request.
