El Camino College and The Melanie and Richard Lundquist Cardiovascular Institute of Torrance Memorial Present "Preventing Cardiovascular Disease through Nutrition and Exercise," February 11Calendar Notice Torrance, CA - Learn about risk factors for cardiovascular disease and metabolic syndrome when El Camino College and the Melanie and Richard Lundquist Cardiovascular Institute of Torrance Memorial present "Preventing Cardiovascular Disease through Nutrition and Exercise," beginning Monday, February 11. Classes will be held 5:30 to 7 p.m., Mondays and Wednesdays through June 11 at Torrance Memorial Medical Center, West Tower, 2nd floor, Auditorium, 3330 Lomita Blvd., Torrance. Participants will earn two units of college credit and can register at www.elcamino.edu or complete registration during the first class. Participants may also register during the second class - February 18. The course provides one hour of lecture and two hours of exercise training weekly. Participants will learn about risk factors for cardiovascular disease and metabolic syndrome while participating in individually designed exercise programs. The course will be conducted by Thomas Storer, Ph.D., professor of Kinesiology, and director, Exercise Science Laboratory at ECC. Lecture topics include cardiovascular risk factor identification and the role of exercise, diet, and weight management in risk factor reduction. A variety of aerobic exercise training and muscle strengthening activities will be tailored to meet individual needs and abilities. Torrance Memorial Medical Center is a 376-bed, nonprofit hospital.
