About the Emergency Department

When you or someone you love is ill or injured, the Melanie and Richard Lundquist Emergency Department stands ready.

The people of the South Bay have come to trust Torrance Memorial to be there in time of need -- especially during emergencies. Behind the Lundquist Emergency Department stands Torrance Memorial with all the capabilities of a major medical center -- one that has been serving the South Bay since 1925.

Our special emergency care designations include:

  • Emergency Department Approved for Pediatric Patients
(L.A. County Department of Health Services)
  • L.A. County Paramedic Base Station
  • STEMI Receiving Center providing timely treatment for heart attack patients

The expanded facility includes the addition of more patient treatment areas, high-tech capabilities and a dedicated radiology room with digital technology, improving our ability to serve the nearly 6,000 patients who visit the Emergency Department each month.

In 2007, an expansion of the Lundquist Emergency Department was completed to increase the capacity of the existing facilities.

In the department, patients enjoy many improvements that contribute to the quality of care, as well as patient convenience and comfort. Some of our special features include:

  • The South Bay's only decontamination unit, complete with a shower stall serviced with hot water.
  • Three pediatric rooms, one of which isolates from other patients children who may have a communicable disease, such as chickenpox.
  • Private rooms are provided for women who need obstetrical and gynecological care.
  • A room is specially equipped for problems involving the eyes, ears, nose and throat.

From chest pains to migraines, from fevers to fractures, Torrance Memorial is equipped and staffed to provide state-of-the-art emergency caring.

How to Obtain Services

When bringing someone to the medical center for emergency services, cars may temporarily park in the drop-off area near the Emergency to drop the patient off and check in for service. Cars will need to be moved for parking in the East parking structure.

After checking in, most emergency patients will be brought in to the Lundquist Emergency Department immediately. However, if the Lundquist Emergency Department is full, some patients may need to wait before they can be accommodated in the department.

The Emergency Department Lobby

Staffed by volunteers, the Emergency Department offers a comfortable and attractive place for visitors to await patients treatment.
