Torrance Memorial Receives American Heart Association's Get With the Guidelines Silver RecognitionCoronary Artery Disease Treatment Improves Patient HealthTorrance, CA - Torrance Memorial Medical Center has been recognized by the American Heart Association (AHA) with a Get With the Guidelines 2008 Silver Performance Award for improving the health of patients diagnosed with coronary artery disease. To obtain this prestigious annual designation, Torrance Memorial tracked data for patients hospitalized with coronary artery disease, a condition caused by the thickening of the walls of the arteries that supply blood to the heart muscle. Data was collected before and after the implementation of the AHA's Get With the Guidelines Program heart disease prevention therapies. After implementation of the nationally standardized guidelines, patients showed improvements including lowered LDL cholesterol levels of <100 mg/dl. To learn more about the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease, call or visit Torrance Memorial's health resource center, HealthLinks, on the first floor of the medical center's West Tower, 3330 Lomita Blvd., Torrance, 310-325-9110, ext. 4225.
